28 Hong Kong Street comes to C.G.R. Merchant & Co.
Fancy having your cult-famous cocktails made by award-winning bartenders, from Asia’s number one, award-winning cocktail bar? Is the answer, yes, please? Because ours is.
For two nights on 11-12 May, Singapore's global-fave, cult cocktail bar, 28 Hong Kong Street, is coming to Wellington.
Part of Wellington Cocktail Week (13-19 May), and hosted at preeminent cocktail hang-out, C.G.R. Merchant & Co, Welly barflies can consume the cocktail magic of 28 Hong Kong Street.
The Singapore bar with the understated, hole-in-the-wall exterior and noir-ish, hideaway interior (though you actually need to enter to experience this - they don’t allow photos or social media within the bar’s four walls) has perennially appeared on the list of World’s 50 Best Bars since opening its doors in 2011. Awarded numerous accolades for its signature world-class creations, it’s also nabbed the prestigious title of Asia’s number one bar, most recently in 2016.
Not only is 28 Hong Kong Street famous for its award-winning cocktails, sporting hip-hop inspired names (forget gin and juice - you’ll be sippin’ on Cashew Everything Around Me, 6 Foot 7 Foot and Hittin’ Switches), they’re notorious for their hip hop night time playlists to take you well into the evening and beyond.
C.G.R. Merchant & Co teams up with the 28 Hong Kong Street crew to recreate the 28HKS experience with award-winning libations, shaken, stirred and poured and garnished by two of 28 Hong Kong Street’s (and the world’s) most talented mixologists, all the way from Singapore to work alongside the C.G.R. Merchant & Co, team. Yup. They’re kind of A Big Deal™.
Jason Williams, is one of the most talented bartenders to ever come out of Australia, and has a bartender residency at 28 Hong Kong Street. He has won Australian Bartender of the Year an unprecedented five times, and was a finalist for International Bartender of the Year in 2014.
He’s joined by Charlie Ainsbury, who, with 14 years under his belt, has worked in some of the world’s best cocktail bars including the Bayswater Brasserie, The Diamond (Vancouver), Eau de Vie (Sydney) and Bulletin Place.
The 28 Hong Kong Street crew will also be bringing their famous mac ‘n’ cheese balls, and accompanied by the bar's celebrated playlist to give you the full 28HK experience. No need to jet set off to Singapore just yet.
Entry to 28 Hong Kong Street at C.G.R. Merchant & Co. is free, and drinks and food are paid on consumption. To stay updated head here.
